Posted September 01, 2018 02:27:40The Toronto Maple Leafs are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night.
This is a tough loss for the team and the fans.
They are coming into this game with some heavy injuries and are hoping to get some back in Friday night’s game against the Ottawa Senators.
But it is a winnable game for the Leafs if they can get the win.
The Leafs were without a captain for much of the game and it showed on Thursday.
James van Riemsdyk, who is expected to miss the game with an injury, missed his third straight game and is currently listed as day-to-day.
In other words, the Leafs are counting on one player to be the captain of this team.
The loss to Montreal wasn’t a huge shock.
The Leafs were coming off two consecutive losses and were struggling in front of the home fans.
That’s a major problem for a team that was playing in their best hockey for the past year and a half.
In fact, Toronto was in a bad spot heading into Thursday night’s contest.
The team was already on the road against the Washington Capitals and the Nashville Predators and had played only one game against Ottawa.
The Canadiens had the first offensive zone faceoff, tied the game, and won the puck battle and the fight.
It was the kind of offensive zone goal that was missing from Toronto this season.
But the Leafs scored the first goal, and it was just one of many goals that would go their way in this game.
The Senators scored the next two goals on a power play and a goal by Matt Puempel, but they would score two more goals to take a 2-0 lead.
The game was tied at 4-all in the third period.
But a power-play goal by Joe Thornton gave the Leafs a 4-3 lead with 3:07 left in the period.
The Canadiens scored their second goal at 4:18 of the third to get a 5-3 win.
As mentioned above, the team is counting on van Riemendeksdyk to come back.
He is out with a knee injury.
If he does come back, he could be one of the best offensive scorers on the team.
If van Riemysdysk does come out, he will have a new linemate in Nathan Beaulieu.
The two players were paired together for most of Thursday night, and they did some pretty slick things together.
Van Riemeyksdyss line has been a nightmare for Ottawa in this series.
It allowed three goals on 34 shots against them.
The Senators scored three goals, but the Leafs only managed two.
Beaulieu also has the ability to get open and be physical with opponents, and he has scored a few goals on the power play.
That is an area of need for the Senators this year.
Beaulievs goal on the third goal was a good example of his ability to score.
The two goals were the most important for Toronto.
Van Riemysdiesdys goal was the only one of importance.
It made the game 2-2, but it was the difference in the game.
This loss is a huge one for the Maple Leafs and they should be in the playoff race by the end of the regular season.
It’s still early, but these are some tough losses for the organization.
They have the talent to make a deep playoff run, but if they aren’t able to get the big goals in games against the best teams, they will fall short.
